Being Skillful in Prayer – Created for Fellowship with God
Summary: Start your day on the mountaintop with God in prayer! Learn how to stop walking and
hope and step into the presence of God with boldness and confidence. Remember, God created
us for fellowship and deeply desires to spend time with us. Prayer’s a privilege, not a task – so
pray with joy and make it last!
Being skillful in prayer starts with knowing the different types of prayers:
Prayer of Ministering to the Lord / Prayer of fellowship (ministering to the Lord and
waiting in His presence developing an intimate relationship with Him)
Prayer of Supplication / Prayer of Help (praying for my needs)
Prayer of Intercession (standing in the gap between me and someone else who needs
God’s touch)
Prayer Faith (standing on the Word of God believing you receive when you pray)
Prayer of Agreement (two or more believers coming together in agreement)
United Prayer (group of believers praying together for a united need (Acts 4:24))
Praying in the Spirit (praying the perfect will of God by the Holy Spirit praying through
us)
Prayer of Consecration and Dedication (submitting to God’s will when His specific
direction is not yet known; not prayed a lot, maybe a few times a year)
Prayer of Commitment / Prayer of Casting Cares on the Lord (releasing worries, cares,
and burdens on God knowing He will take care of them (1 Peter 5:7))
Prayer of Binding and Loosing (exercising authority in the spiritual realm to bind the
works of the enemy and lose God’s blessing and will)
Scriptures reminding me that God hears me when I pray and answers me – meditate on them:

Summary: Prayer is more than a habit—it’s a daily discipline that connects us with God!
Pray with confidence knowing God desires fellowship with us even more than we do. Prioritize His presence, and you’ll
walk in the reward of seeking Him! Pray each day, don’t delay—God meets you in a powerful way!
Best time to pray: Morning
Give God the first of your day
If you want the open reward, then you will prioritize your time with Him
When we give God the first 10% of our increase, He blesses the 90% that we keep. Give God the first
10% of your day and He will bless the rest of your day
The Prayer of Ministering to the Lord / The Prayer of Fellowship: The Rules
A minister attends to and waits on others, ready to serve them.
Need to do it in your prayer closet (Matthew 6:6)
o A place you can be alone, shut your mouth, open your heart to God, and wait on the Lord – wait
on Him, listen for Him, be attentive to His voice
o Jesus often withdrew to wait on the Father and pray (Luke 5:16)
“As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for You, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the
living God.” (Psalm 42:1-2)
God created us in His image. In the Garden, He came down in the cool of the day to spend time with His
creation – Adam and Eve. Jesus restored us to that fellowship. We say we need it, but God needs it more
than we need it.
The Prayer of Petition: The Rules
Don’t need to be alone
Characterized as a heartfelt and specific request made to God often for personal needs and desires
o Be SPECIFIC
Go boldly to the throne with your needs bringing His Word to Him
o Be CONFIDENT
Must be grounded in faith on the promises of God’s Word with a confident expectation
that God will answer.
1 John 5:14-15
James 1:5-8
Simply put: this is the prayer when you ask God for stuff knowing you get ANYTHING you ask for that
is according to His will
The Prayer of Help: The Rules
Simply put: just say “God, HELP” – don’t need to be alone, can be done whenever and wherever
Jesus said “Come” and Peter literally WALKED ON THE WORD. When Peter started to sink he yelled
out “HELP” and Jesus IMMEDIATELY came and helped him. (Matthew 14:25-31)
Surrender to God – when you say “God, HELP” you are inviting Him into the problem and yielding to
Him.
Matthew 6:6 KJV
“But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.”
Luke 5:16
“But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.”
Mark 1:35
“Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.”

“In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly.”

“Let me hear of your unfailing love each morning, for I am trusting you. Show me where to walk, for I give myself to you.”

Draw near to God and He will Draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sons and-purify your hearts, you double-minded.

1 Kings 3:9-12 NIV
“So give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong. For who is able to govern this great people of yours?”
1 John 5:14-15
“And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.”
James 1:5-8
“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.”
Matthew 14:25-31 NIV
25 Shortly before dawn, Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. 26 When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear. 27 But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” 28 “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.” 29 “Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”31 Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”

Being Skillful In Prayer – Intercession
Pray God’s will so that He hears AND answers you
2 Chronicles 7:14 – foundational scripture for intercession
NOTE: We can intercede for our nation by praying and repenting for the nation
Angels are activated when we intercede for others
the moment we pray angels start to move on behalf of the people we pray for
We can intercede for the salvation of our loved ones
o When we do, angels are dispatched to them
The church must continuously pray for the 5-fold ministry
Examples in the Bible of the church interceding for Peter and Paul
When you get led by the Spirit to pray:
Pray in the Spirit
If a Scripture is brought to you by Holy Spirit then get it out
You know you’re done when you have a note of victory (a peace or joy or it simply just lifts off of you)
Pray it through and don’t stop until you have the note of victory
Daniel 9:1-23 NKJV
1 In the first year of Darius the son of Ahasuerus, of the lineage of the Medes, who was made king over the realm of the Chaldeans—2 in the first year of his reign, I, Daniel, understood by the books the number of the years specified by the word of the Lord through Jeremiah the prophet, that He would accomplish seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem.3 Then I set my face toward the Lord God to make request by prayer and supplications, with fasting, sackcloth, and ashes.4 And I prayed to the Lord my God, and made confession, and said,
21 yes, while I was speaking in prayer, the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, being caused to fly swiftly, reached me about the time of the evening offering.22 And he informed me, and talked with me, and said,“O Daniel, I have now come forth to give you skill to understand.23 At the beginning of your supplications the command went out, and I have come to tell you, for you are greatly beloved; therefore consider the matter, and understand the vision.”
Acts 12:5-12 NKJV
5 Peter was therefore kept in prison, but constant prayer was offered to God for him by the church.
6 And when Herod was about to bring him out, that night Peter was sleeping, bound with two chains between two soldiers; and the guards before the door were keeping the prison.
7 Now behold, an angel of the Lord stood by him, and a light shone in the prison; and he struck Peter on the side and raised him up, saying, “Arise quickly!” And his chains fell off his hands.
8 Then the angel said to him, “Gird yourself and tie on your sandals”; and so he did. And he said to him, “Put on your garment and follow me.”
9 So he went out and followed him, and did not know that what was done by the angel was real, but thought he was seeing a vision.
10 When they were past the first and the second guard posts, they came to the iron gate that leads to the city, which opened to them of its own accord; and they went out and went down one street, and immediately the angel departed from him.
12 So, when he had considered this, he came to the house of Mary, the mother of John whose surname was Mark, where many were gathered together praying.
2 Chronicles 7:14 KJV
“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
2 Chronicles 14:2-3 NKJV
“Asa did what was good and right in the eyes of the Lord his God, for he removed the altars of the foreign gods and the high places, and broke down the sacred pillars and cut down the wooden images.”
Week 4

*“Then Peter said to them, ‘Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. *For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.’”
Acts 8:14-17 NKJV
“Now when the apostles who were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them, who, when they had come down, prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit. For as yet He had fallen upon none of them. They had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Then they laid hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.”
Acts 9:17 NKJV
“And Ananias went his way and entered the house; and laying his hands on him he said, ‘Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you came, has sent me that you may receive your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit.’”
Acts 19:1-6
1. And it happened, while Apollos was at Corinth, that Paul, having passed through the upper regions, came to Ephesus. And finding some disciples
2. he said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?”
6. And when Paul had laid hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and they spoke with tongues and prophesied.
Romans 8:26-27
“Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.”
Isaiah 28:11-12 KJV
For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people. 12 To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.

23 Truly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will come to pass, it will be done for him. (What Jesus is showing can happen with faith)
24 Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.
Hebrews 11:1 ESV
1 Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.

James 2:18 ESV
18 But someone will say, “You have faith and I have works.” Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.
James 2:17
Even so faith, if it has no works, is dead, being by itself.

Psalm 1:2
But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.
Hebrews 4:1-3 NKJV
Therefore, since a promise remains of entering His rest, let us fear lest any of you seem to have come short of it. For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it. For we who have believed do enter that rest, as He has said: “So I swore in My wrath, ‘They shall not enter My rest,’ ” although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.
Psalm 55:22
Give your burdens to the LORD, and he will take care of you. He will not permit the godly to slip and fall.
